Ever have that feeling you're forgetting something, but you're just not sure what it is? We've all been there! Moving to a new home is such an exciting and busy time, it's easy to lose track of the details. Take extra care to remember these commonly forgotten moving tasks to make your day go smoother.
- Change your address. When you find one of the Las Vegas homes for sale that's right for you, you'll want to keep your friends and family updated with your new address. You'll also have to change your address with your monthly bills and any online retailers you frequent. At least take the time before you move to file your change of address with the post office. Many businesses request address correction if your mail comes back undeliverable, so it's a good way to catch any you forget.
- Turn your utility services on at your new home and off at your old one. You don't want to arrive at your new home and find your electricity won't be turned on for a couple of days, or you have no water to take a shower.
- Pack an essentials box. That medication you have to take daily, your reading glasses, Fido's can of dog food, a set of towels for showering, a snack, or paper plates for dinner are just a few examples of the kinds of items you may have an immediate need for post-move. Plan ahead by packing these essentials in one clearly labeled, easy-to-find box.
- Make arrangements for the movers. Because the exact closing date can change, it can be tempting to leave this until the last minute. But don't. Especially during peak times, movers often have to be booked well in advance for popular times like weekends.
- Remember the stuff that isn't in your home. Pick up the dry cleaning, pick up the suit that's getting altered at the tailor, return the kid's library books, return anything you're renting or anything you've borrowed from the neighbors, and pick up the lawnmower that was sent for repairs. And don't forget to move your things in off-site storage as well.
- Do one last check to make sure you have everything. No matter how well organized moving day is, it's still a little hectic. And of course, you're excited to get to your new home. With so much going on, it's easy to forget that last-minute double check.
- Cleaning supplies. You'll need these at both your old home and your new one. Even if your home is really clean, moving everything around can stir up dirt. In your new home, you'll likely want to start by cleaning the bathroom. And there's probably a few other things you want to clean before you start filling cabinets and arranging the furniture.
