Landscaping Trends

Spring will be at our doorstep before you know it, and you can bet our real estate agents are ready! The arrival of spring brings a lot of opportunities, but as a homeowner, one of the best things about spring is that it offers a chance to spruce up your landscaping.

Of course, over our many years offering Las Vegas homes for sale, we've learned that Las Vegas lawns come with a few unique challenges. Not to worry! Facing a challenge is a great way to encourage creativity, and these landscaping ideas will help you revitalize your property this spring.

  1. Go Native
There are endless benefits to choosing landscape plants that are native to the region you live in. They're readily available and are perfectly suited to your climate, so you won't ever have to worry about whether or not they can survive. These days, nurturing native plants is considered not only a great way to make your landscape look its best, but also to help support your local environment. And in case you're worried that "native" gardening in Las Vegas means you're stuck with a prickly cactus garden, you'll be happy to know that there are countless varieties of native trees, shrubs, and groundcovers that will thrive in your yard.
  2. Use Hardscaping
Hardscaping refers to non-living landscape elements – things like rocks, fences, and walls. There are countless ways to incorporate hardscaping into your landscape. It's great for all climates and locations, but it's especially useful in hot, dry and drought-prone climates, where grasses and other plants sometimes have a hard time. Use stone, wood, brick, and other hardscaping materials to create paths and points of interest within your landscaping. The best part is, you never have to worry about watering them!
  3. Plant Fruit Trees
There are fruit trees for every climate, including the drier parts of the Southwest. Plums, peaches, and apricots all fare quite well in the Las Vegas area, and certain varieties of cherry trees will thrive here as well. Spring is the perfect time to plant fruit trees, and with proper care, they should be flowering and bearing fruit after just a few seasons.
  4. Up Your Patio Game
Landscaping isn't just about your yard! You can also make improvements to your deck and patio that will significantly improve the look and feel of your landscaping. It can be as simple as putting a fresh coat of stain on your deck or updating the upholstery on your patio furniture. You could also dive into a major renovation project like turning a porch into an extended patio, or go all-out on an outdoor kitchen and transform your patio into a griller's paradise.
  5. Improve Your Lighting
Spring often finds our outdoor lighting a little worse for wear, and now is a great time to update it, or install something completely new. Replacing old, outdated lighting fixtures with newer, more in-fashion models is a great way to spruce up your landscape on a budget. You could also pick out a few low-cost solar lights, which look great along walkways and in gardens or invest in an outdoor chandelier or pendant light for your patio or outdoor sitting area.
